A waitress at a pizza joint has big dreams of escaping her dreary small town and finding fame and fortune. To that end she tricks the dopey delivery driver into securing the cash for her escape. But the plan backfires and the money becomes the target for a number of small town folk, all intent on using it to achieve their various dreams.

The Delivery eBook Scott Garthwaite

Scott Garthwaite writes about reality, dreams, love, and life with clarity and attention to detail. The characters have a depth and magic that drew me to them and I became more attached to them as the plot developed. I really enjoyed hearing the thoughts of the characters. The pain of reality is made lyrically beautiful: “But dreams are vapor, and reality plows through it effortlessly, like the bow of a freighter through fog . . .” The time structure of the present interspersed with the past works well with the theme of broken dreams. Zippo is a thought provoking and deep reflection on life, the meaning we struggle to find, and the dreams we believe in for ourselves. The ending was poignant and satisfying. I look forward to more work by this author.

The Delivery eBook Scott Garthwaite Reviews

If you grew up in small town America you will recognize many of the characters in Zippo. Read it and see who you are or if you grew up with any of them. The story is like a puzzle and just like a puzzle all the pieces eventually fit together. A real page turner.
If you have ever lived in Small Town, USA, you are likely to feel a kinship with at least one character in Zippo. At first the web of storylines is a bit difficult to follow. However, as you get to know each character, the strands unravel and you see the desperation that drives each one. Stick with it and you will be justly rewarded. The ending is a bit of a shocker, but so worth the wait. Loved it!
